The only thing that lets it down from being higher on the list is Devin Lytle and Joe Walker’s really dubious vocals. It has tempo changes that are slick, a seriously catchy tune and two men dressed as vaginas. With beautiful harmonies and interesting insights into the characters’ minds, this ensemble piece covers all bases, including two men dressed as vaginas. ![]() This song is a group number wherein all of the main characters are preparing for the events to come at school that day. The story follows cast member Joey Richter and his “out of control” Dick, played by Joe Walker. Me and My Dick was Starkid’s second YouTube released musical, way back in 2009, shortly following the release of AVPM. Even though the song is entirely demeaning towards Jafar, its uplifting choral delights and cleverly injected dialogue still leave you beaming at the end of it. The references to Disney are hilarious, particularly when Belle herself makes an appearance. I’m not going to lie, a number of Twisted songs didn’t make the list but are still amazing and definitely worth a listen – ‘Twisted’ itself, and memorably ‘No One Remembers Achmed’ – but they missed out to this one purely because of the “magical” vocals from the cast – the lyric “And your dreams will come true upon a star” alone is a testimony to this. ![]() Jafar is blamed for the socio-economic inequality within the kingdom, as well as pretty much everything else. The brilliance of this song is that it takes the structure of Beauty and the Beast’s ‘Belle’ and readjusts it to fit Jafar’s circumstances. This is the opening number to 2013’s Untold Story of a Royal Vizier, and it sees the story’s hero, Jafar from Disney’s Aladdin, conversing with the merchants of the market place while they all insult him profusely for being ugly, old and a “piece of shit”. ![]() These are just some of the very best musical numbers that Starkid has to offer: And they are without a doubt one of the most talented groups of people I have ever come across.įrom a writing and composing team that is unbelieveably imaginative and absurdly witty to extremely versatile and gifted performers, Starkid have produced A Very Potter Musical, Sequel and Senior Year, Starship, Holy Musical most recently, Twisted. Starkid consists of a group of performers who write and star in their own musicals, many of which are parodies or else “retellings” of famous stories, currently based in Chicago. If you have no idea who Starkid are, where have you been for the past five or so years? That version was featured on the tour's soundtrack. So I may be appealing to a slightly more niche audience than usual with this but I am an avid Starkid fan and have been watching their shows more and more as of late, and so felt as though they warranted a blog.
